  2. Hi, Brian,

In February of 2005 I had an electrician friend spend a couple of days here swapping out my electrical panel, going from screw in fuses to breakers. On day one I told him to wire the panel mindful of the fact that I would eventually want a backup generator installed. On day two I told him the generator was a go as soon as he could work me in. I've been running into him once in a while and reminding him ever since with no luck. Last night I made up my mind to call him one last time just to ask him who he would recommend that would be able to do the job. He said let me drop in tomorrow and see what we need.

This morning came and he arrived around 10:00 AM with an apprentice electrician and a lackey and said "we can do this today!" They had gone to another job to find that the builder wasn't ready for them so they high-tailed it to my place!

I had five other little things I wanted him to do so he set the apprentice up to do those things and he started on the panel. Four of the five other little things are now done and they will have a new ballast for a florescent fixture in the morning for the fifth. And the generator panel is probably 80% done, the jack is mounted outside the door to plug in the generator and the connector cable is ready to plug in. An 8k watt Honda powered generator is in stock at the supplier in Kentville with my name on it (for only $1200.00, which is exactly what I paid for the little 2kw Honda generator that I bought to use when we are camping!).

So, 24 hours from now I will be hoping for a power failure!

  3. Ken i hope your power goes out so you get to play with the generator. Great price, i paid 1100.00 for a 1k watt quite a few years ago.

  4. Well, apparently I misunderstood what he said yesterday.... I'm now being told that the 8000 watt generator will cost $2400.00. I'm pretty sure what he quoted me yesterday, but it was verbal not in writing, so $2400.00 it is. In for a penny, in for a pound I guess.

The wiring is now done. Waiting for the delivery of the generator. I'm ready to go, but a little poorer than I thought I was going to be!
